RACHE MULLIGAN, CPM

I have been drawn to childbirth since I myself was a child. I’ve always had a love for studying the body and the changes it goes through. It didn’t take long for me to know supporting birthing people during the biggest change of their life would be my career path.

I started my educational journey at UNLV as a Pre-Nursing student, with the hopes of becoming a Nurse-Midwife one day. Moved back home in 2017 and achieved my Associates of Science in Pre-Nursing in 2018. After applying to nursing schools and not getting accepted, I decided to get my Bachelors in Kinesiology with a concentration in Exercise Science and a minor in Sport Psychology. Both to help strengthen my application and to have a degree if I decided to change my career path. During this time I also became a CNA to gain experience. I stumbled upon the idea of home birth and community birth centers, quickly fell in love and knew this is what I was meant to do. I applied to Bastyr University and was accepted in 2021.

What keeps you coming back to midwifery?

I want to empower birthing people and families during such an intimate time. Become a midwife that makes a difference, a midwife who proudly serves her community. It has always been a goal to help lower the African American maternal mortality and morbidity rates in my community and around me. Exercise and physical activity has also been a passion of mine so I strive to incorporate physical activity into the daily regimen of expecting birthing people. To adequately help birthing people feel safe and heard.

Being apart of a birth space is such a sacred and magical feeling. To help bring life into this world is such meaningful work that I will never take for granted. Every birth is different and each time it's a blessing to witness.

I love to read and write, mostly journaling. If I'm off call I'm most likely having movie nights with my husband or spending time with our family.

In another life, I'm pretty sure... I was a dolphin
